Holiday train travel as an environmentally positive means of transport is becoming more popular around the world. While Norway for example offers some of the world’s most adventurous journeys on tracks, New Zealand now includes wearable art shows in its themed train trips.
Great Journeys New Zealand, in partnership with World of WearableArt®, offers a VIP experience, featuring scenic views, local cuisine, and onboard entertainment as guests travel to the WOW® Show later this year in New Zealand’s capital city Wellington.
The two-night WOW Train package includes accommodation in Wellington, Gold tickets to the 2025 WOW® Show and a return flight. During the scenic train journey guests are treated to seeing a small selection of wearable art creations up close, accompanied by insightful commentary about the garments. Each passenger also receives a special WOW® goodie bag and an exclusive WOW-inspired menu.
There’s also a WOW Train service to the South Island again for 2025. The journey to Wellington incorporates the Coastal Pacific train and Interislander ferry.
While New Zealand only has a handful of trains and tracks, Norway in northern Europe has a well-developed network of award-winning scenic railway lines, from Kristiansand in the south to Bodø, above the Arctic Circle.
Travelling by train in Norway offers amazing views, with many routes passing through stunning landscapes of mountains, fjords, countryside, and lakes. Along the journey, travellers can enjoy various activities and adventures and exploring charming villages.
The most famous line is the Bergen Railway, named one of the world’s best train rides by Lonely Planet. It runs between Oslo and Bergen across Hardangervidda, Europe’s highest mountain plateau. It also connects to the incredible Flåm Railway, one of the world’s steepest railway lines.
